This is the time of year, as difficult as life has been in 2020 and y’all, we know 2020 has been a year unlike any other. Cannot stress that enough. The memes have been flying about what the heck is going on this year, but this has been certainly not an easy year. However, we know that there are so many different ways that your practice can continue to give back and continue to help others in the community.

Now, as a consulting company, we work with our clients who are aesthetic and cosmetic practices across the country. So we work with our clients every year to create some really strong giveback campaigns. And so with that, I want to have a conversation with you about some different ways and different ideas in how you can give back. It is now October, so as a recording this podcast, it is October, and October comes with several things we know that October comes with breast cancer awareness.

We know that October also comes with Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Now, when we worked with one of our previous practices, we created an entire campaign around bra donations. Yes, you heard that right. Bra donations. So there are a couple things and a couple different angles that we took with this particular campaign. Number one, they paired and partnered up with a domestic violence shelter in their community.

It was a shelter that was known and had a really strong reputation, a women’s shelter. And we know that often women who have undergone and are dealing with domestic violence, when they choose to actually leave their home, it could quite possibly be in the middle of the night in their pajamas with only the clothes that are on their backs.

And quite honestly, sometimes that means that they’re not wearing a bra. That means that they have gone out into the world without something as simple as a bra. Now, on the other side, if you are a practice that does body work and your patients are undergoing this transformation, often that means that their bra sizes have changed. Now, when your bra size changes, that means you need new bras and therefore don’t have a need for your previous bras.

So men I know that this may sound like a little bit of a TMI, but let’s be honest, we’re all in the industry. So with that, we created a campaign that if a patient brought in their new or gently used laundered bra or bras. Then the practice would offer a discount up to a certain value off of any procedure.

So we want to look at is this 10% for your practice or is this 15 or 20%? But create not only the promotion around it, but have a bin in your front reception area that these items can be donated. You want to make sure you’re promoting this effort so that people can actually know that it’s going on and that they’re actually able to take advantage of this.

This is a great community service piece. Let social media know, but influencers know. Let others know what you’re doing and what this partnership looks like. With that, find out what the rules are to have those bras donated. So work with the particular domestic violence shelter. What does that need to look like? So we want to make sure that we have all of that smoothed out and you really are adhering to those rules.

Other items, instead of new or gently used bras, look at the same concept when it comes to a canned food drive to help join the fight against hunger and also look at toy drives. Whether you are partnering with a children’s hospital, whether you’re dealing with a domestic violence shelter, a family shelter, etc.. But pick an organization in your particular communities.

You want this to be really community focused, that you’re able to create an entire campaign around this and you’re able to actually get your team involved. So get your staff involved here and get them talking about the campaign on their social channels. Create material that your patients are able to talk about this campaign, whether it’s toys, whether it’s canned food, whether it’s domestic violence.

You want to make sure that you are really creating something that the community can get behind. Now, make sure I’m going to give you a short checklist. You are creating social media posts, stories, e-newsletter, flier, a poster in your front desk slash reception area. Also, make sure that you have something a flier behind plexiglass or something like that behind a frame in the restroom.

This is a great time to update your on hold messaging. Put something on your website’s home page, and include it in your front desk team’s phone scripts so that they can inform and encourage patients to partner with you when scheduling the appointment. So this shouldn’t be something that you need your patients to ask about with every appointment need make sure that you’re telling your patients about this particular endeavor and a way that you are partnering with.

Also, be sure to specify any date in which you’ll be taking donations, any sort of deadlines for the promotion, etc. because you don’t want to, for example, end up with a dozen used bras after that the campaign is over. And so you want to make sure that you and your community advocate. Yep, that’s what we’re going to call your community advocates all get behind this.
