How to Find Success With a Mid-Level Male Provider

From time to time, we hear from clients that certain female patients or clients may be uncomfortable with a male provider. Especially, in a situation where the patient is undressed. This includes a male massage therapist, male breast surgeon, and more.

We want to make perfectly clear: this article is not about bashing any genders. However, in this article we will talk about how to find success with a mid-level male provider.

We’ll discuss the hiring process, intake, marketing of your new staff members, and more.

  • During the hiring process, we suggest watching how the male providers connect with the existing team. Don’t be afraid to ask him how he would help a female client or patient feel more comfortable. The next best thing to do is to ask him about his work history and references, as you would any other staff member. The owner should take note of any red flags if the answers seem off.
  • Next, initiate the new male staff member. Always make sure that he gets along well with the rest of the team, otherwise it will show to clients and patients. It is also best to have him perform a service on staff members.  This way they can personally provide true input on how he makes the opposite gender feel and they will be able to credit him with positivity.
  • Marketing both your male and female staff members is always important. You want your patients or clients to know that you are a gender friendly place. You also want them to feel comfortable when coming to your office. Marketing male staff members is always a great way to build clients that way they have seen reviews and know that this staff member could be a great fit.
  • Always consult a legal professional to find out when another female chaperone is needed in the room during a treatment.

Again, we are not bashing any genders. However, there are certain steps to take to ensure the success of male professionals.
